The
Sacramento Recorder Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
It is a chapter of the American Recorder Society and an affiliate of the
San Francisco Early Music Society. We welcome recorder players of all
ages and abilities as well as players of other early music instruments
such as lutes, viols, sackbuts, shawms, curtals, krummhorns, and
percussion. Beginners are urged to study privately to learn fingerings
and become comfortable reading music before joining the recorder
orchestra.
We meet monthly September through June,
from 6:45-9:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, at the Friends
Meeting House, 890 57th St., between H and J. Most of our meetings are
conducted by a professional early music specialist who teaches recorder
technique and relevant music history and theory while exploring music of
many eras.
Many of our members also play in smaller
groups in members' homes during the rest of the month, and these
consorts are encouraged to play at our June concert.
Throughout the year, we offer several
special activities. These include the following:
Special events:
Workshops, master classes, and concerts by internationally known recorder professionals.
Winter Party featuring period and modern instruments.
Public concert
in June featuring soloists, small consorts, and the entire Society.
Appearances by
affiliated consorts throughout the Sacramento area in churches, schools,
and senior homes.
Newsletter with
calendar and information about early music concerts and activities in
Northern California, and articles about playing and studying
early music.
Carpools to
concerts and workshops throughout Northern California.
Lessons for
individuals and coaches for ensembles.
Cost of membership is $45/year.
