Download the current newsletter Archived Newsletters Other News A Word from Your President Dear SRS members, As we come to the end of this year, it’s time to look back at our previous year and forward to the next year. We have been listening to our members and discussing how you want the Recorder Society to continue and remain the same, and how you would like to see it change in the next year. The June meeting is a great time to let us hear your ideas and opinions. Of course, we like to get your input at any time. Once again, we’ll have seven of our monthly playing meetings led by professional directors. We are in the process of choosing directors for specific dates. I'm excited about the talented slate we’ll be able to offer next year. We will announce the schedule as soon as it’s finalized. We are working on some new ideas for our December and January playing sessions, as well as our annual party. Our goal is to have a more consistent program for the two member- directed playing sessions. We’ll have the same member director for both sessions. We are planning next year’s party. Members have let us know that last year’s “Holiday Party” format needs some improvement. Keep on the lookout for surprises next year! Tax rebates are coming! When you get yours, please consider spreading the windfall by using some of the proceeds to make a donation to your recorder society. We need revenue beyond our modest membership fees to continue providing our current program. Sincerely, Your Co-President, Steve Sherman Member Profile: Harriet PratoHarriet Prato was born in southern California. She came to Davis in 1950 and has been here ever since. She worked for the University of Caifornia, Davis, as a research associate in textile science and is now retired. Harriet played the flute as a child and found the transition to recorder an easy one. She studied recorder with Frances Feldon for several years. In addition to Renaissance and classical music, Harriet also enjoys bluegrass. The only other thing she thinks we need to know about her is that she thinks that SRS members are a great group of people! (Thanks, Harriet!) A Big Thank You!!! Thank you so much to all those who have brought or have signed up to bring refreshments. So far we have enjoyed goodies brought by Doris Loughner, Patty Johnson, Mark Schiffer, Gail Crawford, Jerry Schwartz, Robert Foster, Harriet Prato, Greta Hryciw, and Crystal Olson . I have neglected to mention Dorothy Orolin and Billie Hamilton’s much appreciated contributions. A big thanks to all, for making our meetings enjoyable in yet another way.
